Ending in a loss in the State Sub-championship to Clay Center, the Lady Rocket Volleyball team went 20-15 last year. The Lady Rockets are in one of the strongest 4A leagues in the state. The Rockets start off the season strong with a large 6A tournament located at Wichita North with another large 5-6A tournament coming later in September at Campus. This year, the Rockets have four key returners to help with the upcoming season including star players seniors Emme McNaul and Madilyn Rutledge, juniors Chloe Mock and Marissa Jensen.
“Throughout the summer, we performed very strongly, and I anticipate the same this season,” said head coach Cherith Mock. “I would expect a better performance than last year's record after graduating only a few key players and returning four starters as well as six varsity players.”
With McNaul as the returning libero from last year, she led the team in digs, helping to control the defense in the back row along with Rutledge being a returning middle blocker to help ignite the team's defense. Chloe Mock returns as a setter and outside hitter after leading the team last season in assists and was second in kills. Jensen works to provide a six-rotation player to the team. Getting in big blocks and helping to run defense. It becomes apparent that the Rockets return this season with a strong strive for offense as they use these players to gain an advantage in upcoming games.
There will be a volleyball Jamboree tomorrow at home against Wichita North and Wichita South. The Jamboree begins at 4:00pm, we can't wait to see you there!
